We are committed to being an upstanding corporate citizen and a good neighbor in every community that we serve. Our focus of corporate giving and community involvement is centered on the health and welfare of children. We are constantly reviewing new opportunities to support causes related to this focus.

Shamrocks Against Dystrophy

Eric Claus, (President & CEO, The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., Inc.) proudly presented a check for $230,189 for
The Muscular Dystrophy Association
(MDA) to Peter Kearney and his son Kevin Kearney, a family served by MDA.

This remarkable donation was raised at our stores - A&P, Food Emporium, Super Fresh, Farmer Jack, Waldbaum's, Sav-A-Center and Food Basics - during the "Shamrocks Against Dystrophy" campaign, which ran from Sunday, February 26th through Saturday, March 18th.

While many of our banners have participated in the "Shamrocks Against Dystrophy" campaign for as many as 20 years or more, this was the first year that they all worked together for the cause.

MDA greatly appreciated this generous donation by our customers, as well as the tremendous efforts of our associates to coordinate and solicit the donations.

Donation and Solicitation Requests

Donation Request Form Solicitation Request Form

While it is a noble effort to help all in need, it is impossible to grant every request that comes in. In order to honor the most requests possible, we will follow these guidelines:

  • Requests must align with our focus of supporting the health and welfare of children.
  • A maximum of one request per organization will be honored per fiscal year.
  • All requests must be submitted at your local store.
  • All requests must be on your organizations letterhead and attached to the proper
request form. (click above for donation or solicitation request form)
  • Donation requests that are approved will be honored with a store gift card.
  • 4 weeks notice is required on all requests.

The volume of requests is significant and we are unable to respond to or support all submissions. If we are able to fulfill your request, you will be notified within four weeks
after the date that your request was received.

It is important to note that we do not donate to political organizations, organizations that discriminate or individuals. We no longer purchase journal ads of any kind.
We reserve the right to refuse any submission.
